Yue Laan (Hungry Ghost) Festival

Yue Laan (Hungry Ghost) Festival is a great festival in China and it is celebrated not only in China but also in the Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan and Singapore. Being a traditional festival, the day of the Yue Laan (Hungry Ghost) Festival is also counted as the National holiday in China. In China, the people believe that on the day of the Yue Laan (Hungry Ghost) Festival, all the ghosts are allowed out from heaven, so, all the Chinese people offer foods and many other thing to make the ghosts satisfy on that day. Actually, the Yue Laan festival or the Hungry ghost festival is counted by the Chinese Lunar calender and it is celebrated on the seventh moon in the Chinese lunar calendar, on the 15th day. The activities of the Hungry Ghost festival or the Yue Laan Festival maintain in several places in China as well as Hong Kong.



Normally the people admit Chinese opera public presentation and complimentary dispersion of rice to believers and also poor people. Several devotees go to big temples and by the streets to join ceremonial occasion by flaming candles, incense sticks, paper money and many more things for the dead and devoting the sacrifice offerings such as fruits and meats.



During one long lunar month, the Hungry Ghost Festival continues and ghosts are told to move about the earth.
