Seven Sisters Festival

Seven Sisters festival is an ancient festival of China and the festival has its beginning from the Chinese folklore belong to an earlier time more than one thousand and five hundred years. According to the legend, the Seven sisters festival boasts a weaver maid along with six elderly sisters. The weaver maid moderated an unfrequented life doing work at her loom all the way through the year. The father of the maid was the Heavenly Emperor who really sensed sorry for the girl and granted her to get marry a cowherder from crossed the Milky Way. Later after the wedding, the maid disregarded her previous weaving work and the great Emperor dictated her to return back home and see her new husband only one time in a year which is the seventh day of the seventh moon by the Lunar calender.



The celebrations of Seven sisters festival focus on the spiritual rituals and it features the needlecraft contests. On the Seven sisters festival, as part of the worship, all the young women make their religious offerings to the night sky and to the two stars that act as the cowherder and his wife, the maid.



On the day of celebration of the Seven sisters festival, women normally offer fruit and burn joss sticks as well as cense in the open air, in yards,at the gardens, and mainly on the rooftops or at Lovers' Stone which is on the Bowen Road in Wan Chai.
