Dong Zhi (Winter Solstice) Festival

Dong Zhi(Winter Solstice) Festival is celebrated as the second most significant festival of the Chinese lunar calendar. Celebrated on the most longest night of the year, Dong Zhi(Winter Solstice) Festival is the day while day remains in a short period and sunshine is lightest than other days. The Dong Zhi(Winter Solstice) Festival is basically a thanksgiving festival and celebrated in winter when all the farmers as well as fishermen assemble food in the planning for the following cold season of the year. The Dong Zhi or the Winter Solstice festival is also a time for family reunifications in China. The celebration of Winter Solstice can be described as the Chinese notion in yin and yang which are represented as balance and harmony in human life.


According to many beliefs it is said that the yin features darkness and cold which are supposed to be the most powerful forces at this time, but on the contrary, yang is also providing light and warmth to all the country of China.



So, the Dong Zhi Festival or the Winter Solstice festival is a great time for hope and light. Dong Zhi Festival is celebrated with proper ritual as well as style in almost every part of China. Being the longest night of the year, the Dong Zhi( Winter Solstice) Festival is the time to wear new clothes and it is also a time to visit relatives and friends with gifts and sweets.
