History of Celebration of Birthday of Che Kung:
The festival's origin dates back to as long as 100 years . The village was struck by the malady of plague when the villagers in the camouflage of various Gods and Goddesses ambled around the island to wipe out the ominous spirit . Some believe that the festival aims to expel the evil spirit by adjuration . The deep rooted belief is portrayed through the myriad activities of the participants in the festival . The festival bespeaks of vibrant colors , exuberant images and sounds of celebration .
Previously the agile participants would run and climb to the top of the tower . They would take the buns from the top of the tower and distribute it to the people standing beneath the tower. This event witnessed an accident in 1978 as a result of which the ceremony was jettisoned . The festival is replete with the unbridled exhilaration and excitement of the people . The visual appeal attached to the festival bespeaks of a plenitude of excitement and frenzied people coupled with profound religious connotation .
